GUI Tic Tac Toe game in Java

Today we are going to build a small but cool project together which is a GUI Tic Tac Toe game in Java. This game is a classic programming problem that is going to set your foundation for logic building in programming. So let’s start with it.

Project Overview: GUI Tic Tac Toe game in Java

Project Name:GUI Tic Tac Toe game in Java
AbstractIt’s a GUI-based project used with the swing library to organize all the elements that work under the Tic Tac Toe game.
Language/s Used:Java
IDEVs code(Recommended)
Java version (Recommended):latest
Database:Not used
Type:Desktop Application
Approx time:1 hour

What you will learn from the GUI Tic Tac Toe game in Java:

  • Handling Classes and Objects creation (very important as this is the standard used in industry-ready programs)
  • Dealing with data structures like 2D arrays
  • Functions, Loops, Conditionals, and variables
  • And lastly, Java Swing and Java awt for creating a beautiful User Interface

Features of the Tic Tac Toe game in Java are:

  • Two players can play
  • The corresponding scores of both players will be visible
  • Either of the players wins or its a tie
  • New Game to play fresh

Setting up the development environment:

Create a folder on the desktop of your computer with the name of TicTacToe.

Now open the VS code editor and open the terminal by clicking on the left-side top icon.

open terminal in vs code

Navigate to the folder location that we just created for our project by doing cd TicTacToe. Now we are in the project folder.

navigate to TicTacToe folder

First, download two images in the folder that we will require to create the X symbol and a cool console game icon as a logo. Click here to download.

Create a file with the name TicTacToe.java (don’t forget to add .java extension).

TicTacToe.java file

Now copy the below lines(with the button available on the top right of the code) of the code into the file. I have provided the necessary comments in the code to better understand the code.
